Welcome to the 2010 - 2011 Awana Year here at Meridian First baptist. It has been a busy start with lots of kids. Check back often for updates on upcoming events, and activities that are happening. Be sure to check the calender as well for the year in review.

WE ARE BACK!!

We are back and glad to be. The AWANA 2009-10 season started on September 9th with parents night. we had 80 kids total and almost 30 workers!! We started with a group opening and then broke into our groups where kids met their leaders and learned what they had to look forward to. Then we got back together and had rootbear floats. It is always good when there is ice-cream involved!!

We are looking forward to a GREAT year. September 16th is Know Your Leader night. Your kids should be able to tell you all about their leaders at the end of the night!! Hope to see you there and here. Also, we are now on Facebook. Look for us!!

Trek and Journey Bible Bowl and Games

January 31st was a very exciting Saturday. We had three Trek (Junior High) kids and five Journey (High School) kids play some games and compete in Bible knowledge.

Gabby, Quinn and Nathan were our Trek kids that combined with Grace Baptist of Emmett and won the three team competition. They gave it their all and did a great job.

The blue blurr is Suzanne McReynolds running the Marathon Race. That is 8 laps around a 30 foot circle on a slick gym floor. Oh yeah, she won.

Suzanne, Emily, Rachael, Melissa and Cody were our five Journey kids that combined with Grace Baptist to compete in 10 very fast paced games to take first as well. They did a great job and showed great commitment by spending their Saturday with us.

Allison doubled as team photographer and head score keeper for the day. Tawna took pictures as well. We have lots of pictures!!

We had a good turn out of people to watch. They all seemed to be having fun!!

Trek balloon relay. The last, hardest and easiest game to get disqualified on. It is all about moving your feet and keeping a balloon under control.

The award winning team of Gabby and Quinn on the four (three) way tug. They had to work at it but they can't be beat!!

Cody, Suzanne and a young lady from Grace Baptist during the paddle section of the Bible Quiz. They did a great job of answering some 60 questions to take first place. They were amazing, I couldn't answer all the questions.

Congratulations kids and thanks for your positive attitudes, great team spirit and your commitment to the Lord. I am proud of you all!!

Back into the Swing of it

Happy New Year!!

Well now that our three week Christmas and Holiday Break is over we were back at it on Jan. 7th.

There are some major events coming up quickly and there was a need to change the AWANA Schedule for Games, so events are happening earlier then usual. Here is the New schedule

A Caroling We Will Go

Leaders are chillaxin' after driving our singing troupe around the town of Meridian.

Best part of caroling is always the donuts and hot chocolate or cider!!

No outing is complete without those willing to stay behind and make sure that the drinks are hot and the donuts fresh when you return from all that singing!! Thanks Rosie and Darlene!

On December 17th we took advantage of no official AWANA meetings being held and took the TNT kids and the 24/7 kids caroling to older people in our church. It was 18 degrees outside and I figured we would have few turn out but with all the leaders and kids we had around 35 people who were ready to lift their voices in songs of the season. They did GREAT!! I had mapped out 12 locations to go to and we had roughly 90 minutes; I told the kids the key to getting to a lot of houses was how fast they got in and out of cars. We had five cars, I heard no complaints about the cold and they took me seriously and got in and out of cars faster then I thought possible!! Our biggest trouble was that many of the people weren't home, but we had fun anyway and got to all 12 locations.

Thanks kids for a job well done and as many of you asked, we will plan on next year and will make some changes to get more involved in both the singing and listening!!

Pillows for The Boise Rescue Mission

What a successful event this was!!! We gathered 70 pillows for the Boise Rescue mission. The kids did great. And we found out that they were praying for pillows on Saturday and we were able to provide for their needs right away. God is awesome.

AWANA in November

Be true to your school. On November 12th we had team night and clubbers were encouraged to wear their team colors. Ashtin and Callie are seen here sporting Kuna colors and proud of it. We had a little of everything from pro-football, to college football and school colors. Dress up is fun at any age!!

Friends are made at AWANA!! Here are Evin and Garrett working on a puzzle waiting for Cubbies to start.

We work hard at playing. This is the official AWANA Games event four-way-tug. It is a favorite even though it is really hard on the hands. We were loud this night of games and leaders had serious headaches. But what fun, we even raised the temperature of the room by four degrees.

Our Commander, Justin Touchstone, gives the lesson on the TNT group. The topic was loyalty and our loyalty to God. We combined our boys and girls for lesson time and it is good to switch things up from time to time.

Our attendance is GROWING!! The past two weeks we have had over 90 kids and last night (November 20th) we had 96 kids. So kids, keep bringing your friends and we will hit 100 kids in attendance before we break for Christmas!!

Catching Up

Well, It has been awhile since the last post but things at AWANA having been moving right along.

October ended on a good note with our annual Trunk or Treat and our Cubbies (to the left) were, as always, the cutest animals, superheros and characters anywhere. Even our leaders got into the act (Michele McReynolds, Sparkie Director, top) and the night was high energy with sugar highs all around.

The name Truth & Training reflects the passion of Awana to teach third- through sixth-grade boys and girls the truth of God’s Word and to train them to follow Christ in their daily lives. Our goal is that many of today’s young people will become tomorrow’s church leaders. T&T is the program that trains the leaders of tomorrow — today.

Exciting features to get kids excited about God’s Word

T&T is equipped with a variety of dynamic tools to accomplish this mission:

Four handbooks of increasing ifficulty which teach children that life’s ultimate adventure
is a personal relationship with Jesus Christ

A cast of fun characters that boys and girls learn from and follow on interesting journeys in the handbooks

Weekly meetings that expose children to the gospel message, Scripture memory, Bible study, awards, team-oriented games and gut-busting fun

A Bible-centered curriculum that helps kids build a firm foundation for their faith, hide God’s Word in their heart and apply the truths of Scripture to their daily
lives

Interactive CDs that use exciting high-tech games to teach and reinforce key biblical truths

Evangelism and discipleship go hand in hand in our third- through sixth-grade program. By the time a child has completed T&T, he will have:

Learned and reviewed approximately 310 verses

Studied dozens of passages from the Old and New Testament

Regularly heard and read the gospel message

Discovered the Bible’s response to questions like “How does God want me to live my life?” and memorized verses to back up these answers

Completed missions projects that help him see the world through God’s eyes.

What is a Sparky?

The Awana club for children in kindergarten through second grade builds on the material taught in our preschool clubs. The curriculum takes kids a step deeper into God's Word while giving unsaved boys and girls regular opportunities to hear the gospel and come to faith in Jesus Christ. After being immersed in solid foundational teaching at the preschool level, boys and girls frequently come to an understanding of their need to trust Christ as their personal Savior while in Sparks.

Immersing Kids in God's Word
The Sparks program is firmly grounded in Scripture. The three handbooks feature:

Basic truths about God, Jesus Christ, salvation and the Bible
A clear and consistent presentation of the gospel message
An increased emphasis on Scripture memory over our preschool materials.

In three years, a child will learn and review over 65 verses, many of which cover salvation and key Christian doctrine.

Sparks is currently being revised. New handbooks will have the same trusted features, along with:

Three new ranks: HangGlider, WingRunner and SkyStormer
An aviation theme
A chronological walk through Scripture
Details about Bible characters told in captivating biographies
A handbook CD with dramatic biography readings, memory verses and more
Three new characters – Joel, Chloe and Jacob – to join Sparky
These updates will take place over the next three years, beginning with HangGlider in 2008.

Fun Learning = Results
Sparks club meetings combine learning with fun to create an atmosphere of irresistible excitement for churched and unchurched kids alike. Club meetings are divided into three segments:

Bible teaching, worship, award presentations and the gospel message
Small group interaction and completion of Bible-based lessons
Age-appropriate games on the Awana game circle

Along the way, Sparky, the friendly firefly, and his three friends have many exciting adventures. Sparky encourages kids to learn verses and complete assignments throughout the three handbooks.

Pastor's Night

What color are your socks? What is your favorite book? How old are you? Do you have kids? Did you like living in Israel? And the list goes on and on...

These are just some of the questions that were asked of Pastor Randy Cook on Ask the Pastor a Question Night. The answers? Not near as important as the time spent between the kids and the Pastor that makes him real to them where they are.

However, count on the Cubbies (the youngest) to give interesting answers!!

We had a GREAT night and had a total of 31 clubbers and leaders in attendance. There were 15 Cubbies, 28 Sparks, 33 T&Ters and 12 Trek & Journey clubbers. Games were played, verses said, God's word revealed and the story of Abraham and Issac to remind us all that God provides if we are faithful to obey.

AWANA doesn't stop when you are out of the 6th grade. There is life after T&T and we are here to help you find it. For those that want to continue the intense study and memorization of God's Word you can continue the Journey with the 24/7 group that takes learning God's Word to new heights. It is not for the faint of heart however!! We have 15 junior high and high school kids taking the challenge of learning all they can and in addition to Youth Group activities are continuing with the AWANA material to finish 6 more books. This is a lot of work but reaps great rewards in developing a closer walk with God and even with college and Christian Camp scholarships. Let us support these enterprising teens with our prayers and thoughts as they endeavor to travel down this worthy road. If you have question please don't hesitate to ask!! Well, we have succesfully completed four nights of AWANA and things are going great!! We started with a total of 83 clubbers and leaders and our attendance on the the 24th was 125 total with 14 Cubbies, 28 Sparks, 32 T & Ters and 15 JV and Varsity. We are off and running and growing while we are at it.

Saturday the 24th is the annual AWANA Conference for leaders and area Pastors and we will come back to our club with new ideas and plans for a bright and positive year. Wednesday, October 1st is "Ask Pastor a Question night" with our Pastor Randy Cook attending the club and having the lessons for our various divisions. Come prepared to ask a question!!

See you all on Wednesday nights at 6:45 and don't forget to "Bring a Friend!"

Shoe Fly

Welcome to AWANA 2008!! The goal of AWANA is to train boys and girls with the gospel of Christ and the train them to serve Him. As a part of that, our clubbers of all ages memorize God's Word. A new challenge that has been take on by the members of MFBC and most of the leaders in AWANA is Truth Scripts!!

This is a challenge for adults to also memorize passages of Scripture. Over 40 people have committed to this challenge, and we would love to see more!! We are memorizing Psalm 1 for the fall and our goal is to have it complete by November 23.
